3sixteen Day 2021 is Upon Us
We dive into the sixth annual 3sixteen day with our favourite picks from the upcoming SS21 collection

Today marks 3sixteen’s sixth annual 3sixteen Day – a day in which the New York-born streetwear brand gives thanks to its loyal customers by offering hourly flash sales on particular items across its online store. Finding the sales takes a keen eye and a spot of digging, no doubt. But the reward is a rare saving on the brand’s uniformly spectacular line-up of garments.
And on the subject of spectacular garments (and totally organic segues), we thought we’d take this opportunity to wax poetic on two of our favourite pieces from 3sixteen’s ongoing (and upcoming*) SS21 drops: The Poncho and the Mac Coat.
Distinct in their silhouettes and styling but united in their construction and utility, the Poncho and the Mac Coat are literally and metaphorically cut from the same cloth. In a literal sense, that cloth is a densely-woven, extra-long-staple cotton from Japan. It boasts all the benefits of a weather-ready, shower-proof material without the need for additional treatments. ‘When the fabric gets wet,’ say the guys at 3sixteen, ‘these yarns expand and create an almost impenetrable barrier against the water. The resulting fabric has the hand feel, drape, and breathability of cotton with the technical properties of a synthetic fabric.’ Bottom line? Both options offer up an easy, breezy solution to the oh-so loveable unpredictability of springtime.
In a more abstract, metaphorical sense, both the Poncho and the Mac Coat speak to the ever-growing stylistic breadth of a brand in complete mastery of its craft. Both garments see 3sixteen play with origins and expectations to create something truly unique to them. Such is 3sixteen’s lasting appeal. Such is its artistry. The brand dance across stylistic boundaries and subcultural divides to create pieces that transcend silly notions of trend and tribe. The result is a set of functional garments with a sense of fun and flex aplenty. Garments sure to impress Gorpcore loyalists, streetwear evangelists, and sartorial hardcorialists alike.
Above all though, both the Poncho and the Mac Coat lend visual and tactile testament to a spring-summer line-up unbridled by expectations, unshaken by adversity, and unflinching in the face of pastures new and unknown. To achieve this under normal circumstances would be a home run in and of itself. To have somehow pulled it off amidst the current climate of complete and utter global chaos is something else entirely.
Anyway, that’s enough hat-tipping and glass-raising from us. 3sixteen day is afoot. Go get some.
