Style and Ease: All-season Shirting from Luca Faloni

Luca Faloni offers soft-as-anything shirting options perfect for any season

Words by Will Halbert

So brushed cotton season is upon us once again, which is a lovely bit of news if you ask me. There’s something about the easy, breezy adaptability, and all-around versatility of a lightweight brushed cotton shirt that just gets me giddy. Maybe it’s the summer associations that come along with it: the terrace drinks in good company; the light, back-of-the-neck burn earned by reading in the afternoon’s high sun; the whimsical threat to myself that I might actually take up golf this year. You know, the standard summer flights of fancy.

Now, there’s an all-too-easy wisecrack to be made here about cotton shirts and looking cool while keeping cool – but I promise I won’t be taking that head-first plunge into cliché and contrivance. I wouldn’t be far off the mark, though. Especially if the shirt in question happened to be this Moss Green number from Luca Faloni.

Handmade in Bergamo using the finest Italian brushed cotton. This blockbuster of a button-up brings some understated luxury to any wardrobe. Just like a well-made Negroni on a hot summer day, the shirt is equal parts luxury, versatility, and good old-fashioned swank. The cotton itself – weaved at the prestigious Grandi and Rubinelli mills of Italy – is brushed on the face side to create a light, soft and silky texture. The ‘paramontura’ collar and mother of pearl buttons complete the shirt’s classically elevated look.

By all accounts, Luca Faloni has come away with a lightweight shirt that breathes like a freshly-opened Trebbiano on the sands of Positano (or a Pet Nat on the grass of Hyde Park – if that’s more your thing). All of which makes this the perfect shirt for, you guessed it, looking cool while keeping cool this summer. Wow, I guess I took that head-first plunge after all. But hey, it was either that or another drink metaphor.
