Levi’s rolls out its most sustainable collection to date
Combining the core principles of environmental stewardship, worker well-being, and design for recovery & re-use, Levi’s new WellThread line offers durable and timeless styles that put innovation front and centre.
The heritage brand’s Fall 2021 collection builds on its platform of sustainable fibers with the introduction of a new, plant-based indigo dye from Stoney Creek Colours. The product of a multi-year development relationship with Sarah Bellosa – bio-based dye specialist and Stoney Creek’s founder and CEO – this plant-based indigo pairs perfectly with Levi’s organic cotton to create denim wares of seriously sustainable distinction.
It doesn’t end there. Levi’s non-denim styles (such as the Stay Loose Coverall – a stand-out piece as far as we’re concerned) use a range of dyes derived from food waste streams, while the brand’s tees use an all-new sonic dye application method that cuts back on water waste
‘When we talk about buy better, wear longer, we’re talking about these types of clothes,’ says Paul Dillinger, Vice President and Head of Global Product Innovation at Levi Strauss, & Co. ‘We figure that if we engineer the clothes well at the beginning of their life, they’ll still have maximum value at the end of it.’
